ITANAGAR, Aug 29: The Siang Bachao Andolan (SBA), Human Right Law Network-
In the mad rush for receiving unaccounted ‘upfront payment’ through the signing of MoAs, the Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh in particular and the Govt. of India have forgotten to plan any systematic means to tap the numerous water resources of the state in any form, they said in a joint press statement.
However, without any specific approach to planning, many Hydro power Projects totaling to 148 MoU/MoAs have been entered into by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh till now.
The land owners or the “to be affected people” have never been informed of the plans for construction of the Dams which are really going to deprive thousands of Tribal villagers, of their Livelihoods, Agricultural/Horticultural Fields/Gardens, virgin forests and rivers, the release said.

They urged the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to come out with a white paper on the upfront payments received so far from the Private Dam developers and also the expenditure statements of the same money, so that people come to know where the money received against his lands, rivers, waters and forests have gone. In the failure of the Government to come out with a white paper, we will be compelled to initiate vigorous judicial activism in the public interest, the release threatened.

ITANAGAR, Aug 29: Raj Bhawan today vehemently reacted to the Press statements of some organizations against it and the State Govt., which appeared in some local dailies on August 29 alleging “indifferent attitude” towards martyrdom of Pate Tasuk. The allegation was made ‘without obtaining any comments or views from the Raj Bhawan on the factual position’, a Raj Bhawan press statement released to the Press said.
“Being a former Chief of the Indian Army and the first citizen of the State, the Governor was deeply pained when the unfortunate news reached the State,”
Concerted efforts were made by the Raj Bhawan establishment on the directions of Governor to ensure that the mortal remains of brave soldier Lance Naik Pate Tasuk were brought back at the earliest and with full honours for which Army authorities in Jammu and Kashmir and Guwahati, apart from those in the State were contacted multiple times.
The ADC to the Governor paid due respects to the martyr when the body reached the Naharlagun helipad by laying a wreath on behalf of His Excellency. On the day of the burial, the personal condolence message from the Governor was conveyed to the family members through two ADCs who represented the Raj Bhawan. His Excellency will also personally visit the family members of Pate Tasuk to express the solidarity of all the people of the State in the loss suffered by the family.
Subsequently, the Governor and the Chief Minister also discussed telephonically on what best steps the State Govt. should take for proper rehabilitation of the next of kin of the deceased.
It is very unfortunate that instead of mourning the loss of a brave son of the State, certain individuals chose to lower the solemnity of the occasion and tried to mislead and misguide by making false and concocted statements for petty personal gains, the release said.
It is also regrettable that the media houses did not verify the facts with the Raj Bhawan administration before carrying such news items, it added.
ITANAGAR, Aug 29: The rank and file of Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) deeply mourned the death of Lance Naik Pate Tasuk, who died in an encounter with militants at Kupwara, Srinagar on August 25.
In a condolence message, the party said that the supreme sacrifice of Tasuk has proven the loyalty of Arunachalee towards the great nation. The Govt of India should recognize him as national hero and honor his heroic deed.
The party members conveyed deep sense of condolence to bereaved family and prayed the Almighty to bestow enough strength to family members to bear the irreparable loss.

ITANAGAR, Aug 29: All Arunachal Pradesh Workers’ Union in a letter to Chief Secretary regarding their earlier demand said that despite repeated appealed to chief secretary and the concerned authority, the contingency workers are not getting the monthly wages till today.
The union appealed to the Chief Secretary to summon a meeting with all the HoDs and finance department to sort out the grievances of workers and initiate immediate step for releasing of monthly wages within first week of every month.
The union further decided to stage a peaceful Dharna in front of Chief Secretary Office as its 1st phase agitation on September 12, if the demand of the union is not fulfilled.

Tuki calls for more power to EC

KKSU’s education tour concludes
ITANAGAR, Aug 29: The Education Tour cum Literary Competition organized by the Kargu Kardi Students’ Union ( KKSU) concluded on August 27 at Yomcha.
The tour, which was flagged off on August 19 at Aalo, covered all the Government schools of its jurisdiction, including Govt. Middle School Keak, Govt. Hr. Sec. School Kamba, Govt. Sec. School Darak, Govt. Hr. Sec. Schools of Tirbin, Liromoba and Yomcha and organized various literary events, such as debate, extempore and essay writing competitions and awareness programmmes. Atleast two students from each school in both senior and junior categories were selected for the finals of literary the competitions which were organized at Yomcha coinciding with the unions’s foundation day on August 27.
Ngarik Gamlin, a class X student, was adjudged the best literarian. The toppers of the board examination were also felicitated on the occasion.

Vitamin A and child mortality
Giving vitamin A supplements to children under the age of five in developing countries could save 600,000 lives a year, researchers claim.
Writing in the British Medical Journal, UK and Pakistani experts assessed 43 studies involving 200,000 children, and found deaths were cut by 24 per cent if children were given the vitamin. Taking it would also cut rates of measles and diarrhoea.
The body needs vitamin A for the visual and immune systems to work properly. It is found in foods including cheese, eggs, liver and oily fish.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that, around the world, 190 million children under the age of five may have a vitamin A deficiency.
But despite widespread efforts, supplementation programmes do not reach all the children who could benefit. Capsules are now distributed twice a year in at least 60 countries, with average annual coverage rates nearing 80 per cent.

Through the column of your daily I would like to know where has SIC Chief MS Chauhan, who hit headline in local dallies and NE TV channel for some time in recent past gone hiding. He gave us glimpse of hope that finally all PDS accused will be arrested and that poor Arunachalee citizen will get justice. But just like special appearance in a movie, MS Chauhan has gone missing.
We public are wondering whether he is still posted in our state or whether he has been transferred to other state. Being an IPS officer we expect professionalism attitude from him and hope he will give justice by arresting all PDS accused and put them behind bar. We understand the fact that PDS case will take time to be solved but why there has been no update from Chauhan in this regard. Whether case is continuing or case has been stopped he must address to media fraternity, so that every corner of society may know the real fact of case and its status. By maintaining silence, Chauhan is doing great disservice to the tribal people of Arunachal. An IPS officer should act independently and bravely without being influenced by politicians. However if he continues to drag on this case, people will start doubting his credibility. Is he waiting for us to give missing report about him in various dailies? Why there is no update on PDS case? We want Chauhan to answer to our queries.

I have read in the news paper about ministers offering money on the occasion of festival, functions and for reality show. Each and every year it happens. Last year our Late CM Dorjee Khandu had offered 10 Lacs to the realty show runner up for his contribution in bringing Arunachal Pradesh in national lime light. This shows how big hearted he was. Our present CM Jarbom Gamlin offered 5 lacs to the family of Lt Pate Tasuk who succumbed to bullets while fighting with militants. I would like to ask our CM is this the price for a person who laid his life for the country? My dear CM, in today’s world that amount is not as worth as before. You offer only 5 Lakh to family of brave soldier but you are spending crores in sending your MLAs to foreign tour. I would like to request our Chief Minister to atleast offer a substantial amount or help some otherway, so that the family can survive or do something of their own. Lt Pate Tasuk has left behind his wife and two children. I request entire Arunachalee to come forward and offer helping hand to the family member of Lt Pate Tasuk.
